Meet Rocco, who has developed a very unusual relationship with a technological device. Rocco is a mischievous African Grey parrot who had caused a bit of trouble in his previous home, the National Animal Welfare Trust sanctuary in Berkshire. He had upset some visitors due to the way he ‘communicated’ with them.

Rocco was rehomed afterwards, and his new abode is where he discovered Alexa, a virtual assistant device. The parrot’s odd love for the virtual assistant device even allowed him to utilize the Amazon Echo function, right in his new home – in order to purchase all the things he wanted.

Living with his new owner, sanctuary worker Marion Wischnewski, Rocco had caused a whole lot of mischief for her, with Alexa serving as his perfect tool and partner-in-crime.

Rocco is highly-skilled in voice mimicry, and thanks to that, he was able to add his preferences to a virtual supermarket list.

“I have to check the shopping list when I come in from work and cancel all the items he’s ordered. They chat away to each other all day. Often, I come in and there’s music playing,” says Marion.

On the naughty parrot’s list, Marion discovered that this sweet bird Rocco has added a whole range of fruits and vegetables, which included melons, broccoli, and raisins – even processed food such as ice cream was listed!

He had also ordered some randomized stuff such as a lightbulb and a kite. Rocco is not decribed as a havoc-causing parrot solely due to his shopping demands. He frequently uses Alexa to play his favourite songs by Kings of Leon, and blasts them loudly very often! What a funny bird Rocco is!
