Colorado Parks and Wildlife Spokesman Jason Clay said that the property owner northeast of Nederland told a wildlife officer that a large male mountain lion had killed a goat on Friday night in a statement for Daily Camera.
When the property owner came out to feed his goats in the morning, he saw the lion about 20 yards away from where the goat was killed, so he shot it.
“It’s not part of a hunt, but landowners are legally allowed to protect their livestock from predation,” Clay said. “The land owner had lost three or four goats previously. It seems like mountain lions were keying in on easy meals.”
He said that a wildlife officer discussed ways for the property owner to discourage lions from coming to the area.
