A teenager from Illinois was accused of using a box cutter to cut a young puppy’s neck will be tried as an adult.

According to the Belleville News-Democrat, the 17-year-old teen was primarily set to be worked in the juvenile court system, but on Thursday, a judge determined to transfer the case to an adult court.

The victimized puppy, since named Thor was hurt in late July. Officers with the Kewanee Police Department were directed to the Lakeland Terrace apartment complex to investigate a case of a wounded animal.

The police found a puppy, about six-to-eight weeks of age, with back and neck injuries. Thor was covered in flies and worms, which were supposed to be 12-24 hours old.

The puppy was brought to an emergency veterinarian for care, and he has since healed with the support of the staff and volunteers with the Henry County Humane Society of Kewanee.
