Man drowns in river

A man is dead in the wake of attempting to safeguard his pet pig Sunday evening from the Wenatchee River in Washington state, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement for WSB-TV Atlanta.

Sheriff Brian Burnett said the 45-year-old Monitor man was floating down the waterway around 6 p.m. with his child and pet pig. They were each on flotation tubes, authorities said.

Witnesses told experts that the three were among Monitor and the Sleepy Hollow Bridge when the pig fell into the stream, authorities said.

The 45-year-old man bounced in after the pig trying to safeguard it however was seen battling in the water., according to reports from WSB TV -Atlanta

The Sheriff’s Office said the man’s son yelled to others on the river and the shoreline that his dad had vanished under the water.

Witnesses apparently found the pig and took it to the shore.

Representatives later found the missing man downstream close to the Sleepy Hollow Bridge and were able to pull him to shore, authorities said. CPR was performed on the man until doctors arrived.

Authorities said lifesaving measures were performed around 20 minutes, yet the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies did not say if the man was wearing a life jacket.

The man’s identity isn’t being released until all relatives are informed.

The reason for the episode is under investigation.
